Lucifer The Cat
Lucifer used to be a house cat that belonged to my neighbor, however he got a taste of living outside and decided that he liked it much better than being a house cat.
A cat living outside on his own has many connotations to it: he’s eating lizards, mice, rats, possums, birds and squirrels, right?!
His name, Lucifer, also gives one the idea that he is definitely not a friendly, loving cat.
Two mornings ago, I went outside to feed my furry and feathered friends – only to find Lucifer laying on top of the AC unit. He jumped up and ran off when he saw me.
As usual, I continued on my rounds, filling bird feeders and bowls. I had been thinking about Lucifer and him not being around when the “regulars” showed up. I was glad that the little loves were going to be safe.
As I turned to go back through the area to the house, I saw something magnificent which changed my ideas about Lucifer! There he was, peacefully laying on the ground, a squirrel less than a foot away, birds flying close by. He wasn’t there to attack! He was there for the atmosphere! Best yet, the birds and squirrels didn’t consider him a threat.
Lucifer pleasantly laid on the ground, happily being a part of the group of furry and feathered friends.
Seeing that this was quite a miracle, I decided to look up the meaning of Lucifer and found a very fitting one in WikiPedia: “Lucifer is the Latin name for the morning appearances of the planet Venus. It corresponds to the Greek names Phosphorus Φωσφόρος, “light-bringer”, and Eosphorus Ἑωσφόρος, “dawn-bringer”. The entity’s Latin name was subsequently absorbed into Christianity as a name for the devil.”
Who would’ve guessed that Lucifer was not only a loving cat but also lived up to the origins of his name!
